About Us
Duke Respect Durham is a coalition of community organizations and individuals dedicated to advocating for land and tax justice to support public schools, city workers, affordable housing, and other public services and infrastructure. We are calling on Duke University to pay its fair share to Durham by contributing $50 million a year to Durham through voluntary payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT).

This coalition is committed to building up a flourishing Durham, because we deserve a Durham where:
-
no child goes hungry and has access to a stellar education
-
housing and healthcare are accessible and affordable for all
-
workers’ labor is respected and compensated fairly
-
people can live lives of dignity, where people have agency over the course of their lives and the ever-changing landscape of our home.
It is time for Duke and Durham to collaboratively build a community where all have access to thriving public institutions and truly affordable housing.
